In case anyone is interested, I logged into my.magicjack.com today and the 4 year upgrade for $50 is now available. I went ahead and upgraded and either it will be a good investment or a loss. I don't play the lottery anymore, so this will be my scratch off ticket Smile

Just for clarification, this is for existing magicjack subscriptions. This will extend your current contract by 4 years for a single charge of $50. This averages out to $12.50/yr or $1.04/mo for those additional 4 years.

If you haven't signed up for magicjack yet, I believe there is an option for this as well during signup.

The cost for electricity for the average time it takes to make do the upgrade on the website averaged $.05 so I added that in Razz

I would like to extend my service by 4 years, but the web page to do so isn't secure. I don't want to enter my CC info on an unencrypted page. Anyone else notice this? Any Solutions?

The site does have an SSL cert, so when the form pops up, change http: to https: and press enter. You'll get a cert error; proceed past that and the page will appear. I don't believe that the self-signed cert poses an issue -- you can see that the IP is registered to YMAX. http://whois.domaintools.com/67.90.152.80 .

Of course, I can't guarantee that they will treat your CC data securely once they get it Wink

Stewart,

You are correct about the SSL certificate. I changed the address to https:, received the expected error, and was able to take care of business. Nice trick! Thanks. I knew that I was on MJ's website, but I've been Pavlovian trained to drool react when a website is lacking the all important "s". Gooney - thanks for the advice about the Visa giftcard. I do need one of those.

Some users on here said that they were charged twice... You dont get that problem with the visa gift card.

You can find a store near you here http://usa.visa.com/personal/cards/prepaid/visa_gift_card.html

Another way to protect your CC# is to do what I did, use PayPal to generate a secure card, it's a virtual credit card, you can make it a multiple use or a one use card, and you can cancel the card after the transaction has cleared. I did that because of Magic Jack's order page is not encrypted and I was not about to enter my credit card or bank card number there.
