| So browsing the forum I see that many people are using Vista with their Magicjack. I also noticed that many other people I know are starting to use Vista. So is Vista still crap? Back then i got it when it came out (Vista Ultimate) I installed it and it had so many bigs that i went back to windows XP. So are the bugs worked out? OR are people just using it because it comes with their computer and XP is no longer available. (Loaded on a computer) Well lets see with this poll. |

| I would say that is true. XP is at SP-2 and is good. Advance comments on SP-3 is that there is a large performance boost. |

| Dell still offers XP on some new machines. Now if I could only get them to leave out AOL Eatrhlink, etc. etc. I would be a happy camper. |

I ordered a new Dell (530) for one of my clients just a few weeks ago. They got it WITH WinXP and WITHOUT the crap. I was kind of amazed myself. If you go through the online ordering pages, you can specify what does and does NOT get installed.
When the computer arrived, it was almost exactly what we ordered. Dell had installed Norton AntiVirus, which I promptly uninstalled and replaced with Avast!. Other than that, there was no junk. Imagine that!

These opinions are strictly my own. However, if you really want them, we can negotiate. |

Linux! (with VMWare Server + whatever Windoze you need) -- end of discussion for me.
Best (i.e., most stable) Windoze OS ever made? win2k + SP4 IMHO
Do you know how many people I talk to who are downgrading from Vista to XP?? LOL
(Awaiting postings by Mac zealots in 3 .. 2.. 1 .. -- and they're running Linux as well)

| Yup, many people don't like Vista still i guess. Like you said, I see people who are buying new computers preloaded with vista installing xp on it. |

Yep, save the Image when you get the PC (better still get the Vista install disks if possible).
If you REALLY need it, reinstall Vista on top of Linux/VMware ... you WILL thank me.
If Desktop: Ubuntu (Free),
If Server: SUSE (Free),
If Performance/Barebones Server: Debian (Free)
If Mobile: install Linux on top of Encrypted File System (LUKS, Free)
Consider using Ext3 or Reiser filesystems.
VMware Server: Free
Do this with at least 2GB of RAM and you will be very, very happy you did -- it is a winning combination.
Grand Total: $0 |

| I feel the current build (Vista Home Premium) with at least 19 patches is very solid and I am enjoying it. It is running my MJ just fine although I have to unplug it on reboot. I think I should play with the USB settings in the BIOS of my HP Pavilion and see if that makes a difference. |
